Finding Targeted Keyword Phrases Your Competitors Miss

Finding keyword phrases your competition is missing is easier than it seems. Combinations of two and three word phrases are often overlooked by your competitors when vying for the top competitive terms. This missed opportunity may be a benefit to you to overcome your competition in the search engine rankings. Think Like A Searcher - Study Your Target Audience Really look at the audience you want to bring to your website. Are there terms you might not ordinarily use or your competitors use that would work for a small portion of visitors? Remember that single words tend to be more competitive. Find two and three word phrases that would work for a searcher looking for your website topic. If your visitors usually search on "vertical widgets", look at "horizontal widgets" as well. Dig deep to find terms that might not be obvious to you. Of course using a keyword phrase that no one searches on might give you lots of search results, this is why you should focus your term...

Content Rich, Keyword-Focused Pages: Your Key to Search Engine Success

An often overlooked fact in search engine optimization is that internal pages can have a dramatic effect in boosting traffic to your site. More often than not, efforts are concentrated only on getting people to visit the home page. This is a mistake. Content rich, keyword focused internal pages are easier to optimize and have an excellent probability of pulling in abundant and relevant web traffic. The best way to use internal pages to draw in traffic is to split your content among several very focused pages. For example, if you run a site about cars and you are writing a review of three different car models, don't write a lengthy review covering the three cars in one single web page. Instead, write three separate reviews in three different web pages, and optimize each page for each individual car model. You will have to repeat the model name frequently in the page copy, and include it in the page's title and meta tags. You should also try to get inbound links from sources r...

Effective Web Sites with Keyword Rich Web Content

Writing for the Internet is a huge challenge. And this is the main reason why many companies have a separate section for web content writing services or have opted to hire web content writing services in India on a permanent basis to write for their sites. Web site articles and contents need to be changed or revised at least every week. If you're wondering if that's exaggerating it a bit too much, let me assure you, unless new information or updates are posted on the web sites every week, even every day, browsers will not be tempted to come back. It's similar to a shop window display. And every new revision means new articles. And nobody will be interested in reading articles that are dull. And in the long run this can affect you adversely. Another important aspect of web content writing is accuracy. If the information on the web site is false or inaccurate, it can lead to people being misled, which will not do much good for your business. So, the first step to effective we...

Designing a quality information site requires quality keyword research

It's impossible to ignore the importance of keyword research in the design stages of your website. A quality information site must cover the information that people want to read, and for that, you need to know what they type in at the search engines. The main pages of your website should offer information covering the main topics of your chosen niche. You can always add more articles to cover the less requested information later, and link to these from existing pages and the sitemap. It is standard practise to create a menu that appears on all pages of a site, with this menu linking to the main page. For that reason, you need to narrow your list of "main page" phrases down to 6 - 10. Too many phrases and your site starts to look spammy. Fortunately, deciding on which keywords encompass the entire niche is relatively easy if you have done your keyword research. Let's take an example. I went to Wordtracker and researched "blood pressure". My research found 140...

3 Deadly Search Engine Marketing Sins

My inbox this week provided glaring examples of three all too common rookie search engine marketing mistakes. What you could call three deadly search engine marketing sins. Starting with ===> Inadequate Keyword Research Hey! If youre going to spend hours developing a web site, isnt it smart to invest some time to insure youre focusing on the most traffic laden keywords? Especially when typically the plural form of a keyword phrase generates way more traffic than the singular form. For example "dog dishes" rather than "dog dish". Yet just this week I was asked to look at a site that had focused on the singular form. Evidently the owner hadnt bothered to do any digging to make sure that was their best keyword move. Look, youll never know for sure unless you research it. Besides, you can access Wordtracker, the tool of choice for what? a measly $7 a day. Even better heres a quick and dirty way to get the most out of that day. Search for your target keyword in...

Key Words - they will find you on the web

Keywords are what people give a search engine to find what they are looking for on the web. You can define your key words before you even start your website. Say there are a lot of competing web pages mentioning your product - how should a search engine put these pages in order of relevance to a search? Say some pages contained the word once, and some contained the word ten times, and some contained the word between two and nine times. If all other factors (e.g. number of links from other web pages) were equal, search engines would list those pages containing the word ten times first, followed by those with the word nine times, then eight times, etc., and then those pages containing the word only once listed last. Let's build up a list of search words for one product. Take tents for an example. What words describe it? Here are four words - tent, marquee, marquise, bivouac. What are its uses? Camping equipment, holidays, vacations, parties, functions, weddings. What material is it ...

Beyond Keyword Demand

I get half of the world traffi c for the term "dirtbagging," on one page of my backpacking site, but that only means ten visitors a month. Without decent keyword demand you can't ever get much traffic. Total demand is just one factor to consider, though. Here are some others. 1. Demand/supply ratio. There were 289,000 searches for "fishing" last month, but could you compete against the 35,000,000 results on a Google search? "Bass fishing tips," with 3,700 searches, and 31,000 results is a more likely winner. 2. Total supply. For "dirtbagging," Google shows 240 results, and there may be 20 searches monthly for the term. It was easy to get on the first page of results. On the other hand, a keyword with a demand of a million, and a million search results has a better ratio, but can you really get in the first few pages of results? Whatever the ratio, you have to be able to compete against the supply. If you are on the tenth page of results, vir...
