Beyond Keyword Demand

I get half of the world traffi c for the term "dirtbagging," on one page of my backpacking site, but that only means ten visitors a month. Without decent keyword demand you can't ever get much traffic. Total demand is just one factor to consider, though. Here are some others. 1. Demand/supply ratio. There were 289,000 searches for "fishing" last month, but could you compete against the 35,000,000 results on a Google search? "Bass fishing tips," with 3,700 searches, and 31,000 results is a more likely winner. 2. Total supply. For "dirtbagging," Google shows 240 results, and there may be 20 searches monthly for the term. It was easy to get on the first page of results. On the other hand, a keyword with a demand of a million, and a million search results has a better ratio, but can you really get in the first few pages of results? Whatever the ratio, you have to be able to compete against the supply. If you are on the tenth page of results, vir...

Pay Per Click is the Advertiser's Dream

The way of Internet advertising is changing rapidly. We are moving from websites once cluttered with blinking banners that populated Internet real estate into a cyber-generation of positioning. Marketers are realizing very quickly that the Internet customer is much different than a buyer in the physical world. The typical Internet shopper has developed the following manifesto which motivates him or her to resort to cyberspace: 1. Privacy - The ability to shop from home without anyone else knowing what you are doing. 2. Convenience - The list of products available on the Internet is more extensive than the famed Mall of America in Minnesota 3. Speed - When's the last time you waited on a pimple-faced teenager working a cash register when checking out on the Internet? Traditional Internet marketing has not coincided with the Internet surfer's manifesto. However, no means of marketing have come as close as pay per click search engine marketing. In this article we will discuss the ...

Make Your Resume Keyword Rich and Scanner Friendly

If you havent looked for a job recently, there are new tactics that hiring professionals are using that you should be aware of before updating your resume. Employers and recruiters increasingly rely on electronic resumes, resume posting boards and job banks to find job candidates. Resumes are either being scanned or input directly into keyword-searchable databases, and accessed when an employer inputs a keyword list of requirements that best describe the position they are seeking to fill. The database searches for keywords describing job titles, responsibilities and descriptions, degree requirements, computer knowledge as well as personality traits. This software scans through thousands of resumes and identifies those that most closely match the imputed keywords. The more keywords or "hits" the software finds in a resume, the more likely it will be read by a HR professional. Keywords are the most important element of a scannable resume. What exactly are keywords? Keywords ar...

Keywords are for humans not search engines

It seems keywords are making the top of SEO list time and time again. The problem is that some optimizers do not understand the rightful purpose of keywords. Keywords should not be solely embedded for the purpose of reaching the top of search engines. Search Engine Optimization should not be the primary focus of any website. The primary and number 1 focus should always be the visitors. If you create a website for your audience and for your visitors then you should rank fairly. I can't see why any legitimate website can not rank properly within search engines, after time and dedication. Search Engine Optimization main purpose is ranking faster within search engines. Instead of gaining a good balance of traffic within 1 or more years, it is possible to gain a good balance of traffic within 6-9 months with SEO. Keywords play a major factor in SEO and search engines in general, but the question is are keywords for the search engines or the visitors? The visitors are the ones who ar...

You need to be extremely careful with keyword research so that you don't miss excellent opportunities or aim so broadly that you target phrases that will never rank well. Here are 10 strategies to guide you along the way: 1. Know your potential customers. We can't tell you how many businesses we've met who simply pick keywords out of thin air. They don't talk to customers or hot prospects in order to determine what might be a useful set of keywords. 2. Start with core words. A core set of keywords - even if too broad - can stimulate creative thinking. 3. Look at the industry. Examine industry trade group web sites and related newsletters to find potential keywords. 4. Study competitors. Some companies make a bigger deal of competitors' keywords than they should, but it's still a useful strategy. Invariably, a competitor will be using a strong keyword or phrase you don't want to miss. Often, however, they load their web sites with single keywords that aren...
